David & Nancy Mendoza

The story of David and Nancy Mendoza is a romance with dance. The romance started in 1994 when they met at Alberto's Nightclub in Mountain View, CA, and danced just one Salsa. David and Nancy have been dancing, performing, teaching and choreographing Argentine Tango and Salsa Romantica ever since.

They have traveled the globe, giving performances from San Francisco to Sicily, and appearing at conventions, hotels, corporate parties, weddings, and gala events. They also travel to teach and perform at such dance festivals as the Tango Rosa Ball in St. Louis and Caminito Tango in Italy. Performance highlights include a West Coast tour with the quartet, Tango #9, which culminated in a performance at Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco; and a spotlight performance at A Tribute to Tito Puente at the Bill Graham Auditorium in San Francisco.

Locally, they teach about 150-200 Tango & Salsa students each week at the Beresford Recreation Center in San Mateo, CA on Mondays and Salsa Romantica on Thursdays. In addition to teaching group classes, they host a Milonga (Tango Social Dance) in San Mateo at the Shall We Tango Dance Studio every 3rd Saturday and 4th Friday of every month which started in September 2008. They also teach private lessons at the studio in their home in San Francisco. One of their favorite occupations is choreographing first dances for weddings and student performances for birthdays and other special occasions.

Jaymee Racho

Although I graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in accounting, after spending a few years in the profession, I decided instead to pursue my dream of dancing. I grew up dancing ballet, tap and jazz, and performed with a number of amateur hip hop dance troupes in my college years. When I began working in the professional world, I realized life without dance was not quite right and decided to get back into it.

I was first introduced to partner dancing when I went to a Salsa club. I was immediately enthralled and started taking lessons and was dancing almost every night of the week. I then discovered a studio offering ballroom dance lessons and that was when I knew I wanted to become a ballroom dance teacher.

In 2007, I received my certificate of completion from the Ballroom Dance Teachers College for the American Style Teacher Training Program. While completing the program, I also competed at the amateur level in the Bronze and Silver Level American Style Scholarship Division. For me, competing and performing brings out all the fun, excitement and passion in dance. Not only that, but it helps me continuously improve my own dancing. Now, I am currently teaching at Cheryl Burke Dance Studio in San Francisco where I teach private lessons in the American Style dances as well as Salsa group classes.

Teaching dance has been an incredibly rewarding and satisfying experience. I love being able to share the joy and passion of dance while helping others build their confidence, improve physical fitness, and most importantly, have fun!
